MY FIRST FEW runs were on my own using the Couch25K app. It wasn't until I went to the gym and a personal training asked, "Have you have heard of Parkrun" that I thought about group running. To be honest the thought of it was a little scary. But I joined and went and found that there is a large and amazing community behind running.
I live in Haywards Heath and can use this as the example, but it applies to all towns when looking for running opportunities.
Athletics clubs
Clubs come with the bonus of becoming a registered athlete, access to professional coaches and training. To find a list of clubs in your areas click here.
Run together
Groups are aimed at recreational runners but are still affiliated to England Athletics. You don't get registered as an athlete or acess to a coach, but you do get a qualified Leader in Run Fitness. They are qualified to take you for a run and start the coaching process. There is normally a small fee per run. To find a run together group in your area click here.
Park run
This is a timed 5km run in your area that is free. You need to register to get a bar code and turn up at any event at 09:00 on a Saturday. At the end you will get an email with details of your run which is then uploaded to your profile so that you can track your progress. The can walk walk/run or run it doesn't matter it's about participation. If you want to know how to register or find your nearest Parkrun then click here.
There are a number of other local running groups and opportunites through local running groups. The opportunities are endless and it's worth looking into. This is why everything I do is community based, keeping in contact, learning, coaching and having the occasional beer along the way.
